Jigawa Govt directes immediate deployment of relief materials to rainstorm victims

The Jigawa State Government has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), to immediately deploy emergency relief assistance to communities affected by rainstorm in the state.
This is part of the resolutions of the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday 6th July, 2026 and signed by Sagir Musa Ahmed, state’s Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture.
Ahmed said the Council expressed sympathy for the victims and directed SEMA to immediately provide relief for them.
“The State Executive Council (SEC) on Monday chaired by His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA opened its meeting with prayers for victims of the recent rainstorm that devastated several communities across the state, expressing profound sympathy and solidarity with affected families.
“The Council extended its heartfelt condolences to those who suffered losses as a result of the disaster and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to standing with affected communities during this difficult period. As part of its deliberations, the Council directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), to immediately deploy emergency relief assistance to the affected communities.
“The agency was mandated to mobilize relief materials and other essential support to provide immediate succour to victims and help ease the impact of the disaster.
“The Council emphasized that the swift intervention underscores the administration’s resolve to respond promptly to emergencies and safeguard the welfare of citizens. The Council assured residents that government agencies would continue to assess the extent of the damage and ensure that all affected persons receive the necessary humanitarian support.
“The State Executive Council also called on residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season and cooperate with relevant authorities on safety measures aimed at reducing the risks associated with severe weather conditions,” he said.
Ahmed said the Council also approved an upward review of minimum pension payable to retirees under the State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme from ₦12,000 to ₦20,000 per month, with effect from 1st July, 2026.
“The approval is part of the Government’s sustained commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of retired public servants in the State, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the State during their years of active service. “For the implementation of the revised minimum pension the Council has also approved ₦2,068,608,000 only for the additional annual expenditure to the State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme.
“The Council decision is line with His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA resolve to promote the well-being of pensioners, ensure social protection for retirees, and uphold its commitment to responsible and people-centered governance,” he said.
Ahmed said the Council had also approved Contract for Solar-Powered Electrification of four health facilities across the state.
“The Council has approved the award of a contract for the complete solarpowered electrification of Birnin Kudu General Hospital, Ringim General Hospital, Kazaure Specialist Hospital, and Bulangu Cottage Hospital at a total contract sum of ₦2,136,060,609.38.
“The project is aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery by providing a reliable and sustainable source of electricity to the selected health facilities. The solar power systems projected when completed will ensure uninterrupted power supply for critical medical services, enhance the operational efficiency of the hospitals, and significantly reduce the recurrent costs associated with conventional energy sources.
“The Council approval is part of His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA’s
administration continued investment in the health sector and its commitment to modernizing healthcare infrastructure across the State to provide quality, accessible, and sustainable healthcare services through strategic investments in infrastructure and innovative energy solutions,” he said.
Ahmed said the Council also approved Dairy Production Programme and 2026 Workers’ Agricultural Support Programme.
“The Council has approved ₦3,340,739,507.88 for the implementation of the Jigawa State Dairy Production Programme, a strategic initiative designed to transform the State’s livestock sector and significantly enhance dairy production.
“The programme is in line with His Excellency’s Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA’s agricultural transformation agenda and is aimed at achieving a quantum leap in dairy productivity, strengthening the livestock value chain, creating employment opportunities, and improving the daily income and livelihoods of the majority of households in the State whose primary occupations are farming and livestock rearing.
“The Council also approved ₦923,670,000 for the implementation of the 2026 Rainy Season Phase IV of the Jigawa State Workers’ Agricultural Support Programme. The programme is intended to empower public servants by supporting their participation in agricultural production while contributing to enhanced food security across the State. It reflects the State Government’s commitment to encouraging productive engagement in agriculture, increasing household incomes, and boosting food production through targeted interventions,” he said.
Ahmed stated that the Council also approved Procurement of Vehicles and ICT Equipment to Strengthen Education Administration.
“The Council has approved the award of a contract for the procurement of Eight (8) vehicles, thirty (30) Laptop Computers, and One Hundred (100) desktop computers for deployment to the Jigawa State Senior Secondary Education Board (JSSSEB) and other parastatals under the State Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology. The contract was approved at the total sum of ₦581,667,718.75.
“The procurement is aimed at enhancing education monitoring, strengthening institutional capacity, and improving operational efficiency and service delivery across the State’s education sector.
“The vehicles will facilitate effective supervision, inspection, and monitoring of educational institutions, while the ICT equipment will support digital administration, data management, communication, and other essential functions of the benefiting agencies,” he said.
