Authorities raise concern over emergence of cults at Federal University, Dutse

The authorities at the Federal University, Dutse (FUD) have raised concern over emergence of cult-related activities at the institution.
The Vice Chancellor, FUD, Prof. Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, stated this when he led the management and staff of the university on a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Tijjani Murtala in his office in Dutse.

Adam quoted Gumel as describing the development as relatively new to the university and a matter that required collective and proactive intervention before it become entrenched.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated Murtala on his assumption of duty and expressed confidence in his leadership and professional experience.
He emphasized the importance of sustaining and further cementing the cordial relationship that has existed between the university and the police particularly in the areas of security, intelligence sharing, crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property.
Gumel highlighted the need to promote sound moral conduct, academic excellence, discipline, and responsible citizenship among students, while calling for enhanced security around the university community and its environs. He stressed that a safe and peaceful academic environment is essential for teaching, learning, research, and the overall development of the students.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, thanked the Vice Chancellor, members of the senate, management, and staff for the visit and for the warm welcome extended to him since his arrival in the state.
The Commissioner assured the delegation that the Command places a high premium on the security of educational institutions and will continue to work closely with the university authorities to safeguard students, staff, and other members of the university community.
The CP expressed particular concern over the reported emergence of cult-related activities and other emerging security threats within the university environment.
He said that the Police Command would adopt a preventive, intelligence-led, and community-oriented approach to address such challenges while encouraging the university authorities to strengthen internal mechanisms for early identification and reporting of suspicious activities.
He emphasized that security was a shared responsibility, requiring effective collaboration among the police, university authorities, students, parents, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders. He therefore called for timely sharing of credible information with the police to enable the Command respond swiftly to potential threats.
The Commissioner underscored the importance of discipline, moral upbringing, and academic excellence, noting that educational institutions must remain centers of learning, character formation, and positive development rather than breeding grounds for criminality and social vices.
He assured the delegation that the Command would sustain regular engagement with the university and enhance security arrangements around the institution and its environs through patrols, visibility policing, intelligence gathering, and other appropriate security measures.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated his commitment to maintaining a peaceful and secure environment across Jigawa State and solicited the continued support and cooperation of the Federal University Dutse in achieving the shared objective of crime prevention, community safety, and the protection of lives and property.
The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the existing partnership and ensuring that the Federal University Dutse remains a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research.
