Yobe LG Election: APC Records Landslide As APP, ADP Win Councilor Seat
From Muhammad Maitela, Damaturu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats in the September 26 local government elections conducted across the state.
In the results announced by the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) on Sunday in Damaturu, the APC lost only two councillorship seats in the 178 electoral wards across the state.
The commission’s chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani, said the Action Peoples Party (APP) won a councilor seat in Fune LGA, while Allied Democratic Party (ADP) got one in Karasuwa.
Among the results announced, the APC chairmanship candidate in Bade Local Government Area, Musa Kalan Degona, secured 54,312 votes, while Usman Bukar of the APC won the Bursari chairmanship election with 24,331 votes.
According to Yabani, the commission had not received any official report of ballot-box snatching in Gulani Local Government Area, adding that security concerns might have prompted electoral officials to move election materials to a collation centre.
He said Gulani LGA is among the areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The chairman expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout, citing Potiskum where the winning candidate secured 58,500 votes, as evidence of significant voter participation.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the state Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Comrade Umar Adamu Jajere, said they have accepted the election results.
Jajere told journalists in Damaturu after the announcement of the results, that the election was free, fair, credible and successful.
