1,500 Residents Receive Free Medical Services in Damaturu

Over 1,500 residents of the Nayi Nawa community of Damaturu in Yobe State have benefited from a free medical outreach jointly organized by the Tiyoma Charitable Organisation and the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Nguru.
The exercise was aimed at supporting the vulnerable residents of Nayi Nawa- Damaturu’s community without a primary healthcare facility and still reeling from the impact of recent floods that worsened the spread of water-borne diseases.
Speaking during the outreach, Dr. Aminu Habibu, President of the ARD at FMC Nguru, explained the motivation behind the initiative.
“We realized that the Nayi Nawa community has no primary healthcare centre and has been struggling with the aftermath of flooding, which exposes residents to various diseases,” he said.
“Many of the patients we attend at FMC Nguru come from this community, so we felt it was important to bring healthcare closer to them.”
During the one-day exercise, medical personnel attended to patients suffering from malaria, typhoid, diabetes, and other ailments. Also the temporary laboratory facilities were also set up to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
Kabiru Ahmed Muhammad, representing the Tiyoma Charitable Organisation, expressed appreciation to the doctors for their collaboration and commitment to the cause.
“We came here to offer consultations and free medications, including drugs for malaria, typhoid, and other common illnesses,” he said.
“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Aminu Habibu and his team for their dedication in making this outreach a success.”
Residents of the community commended both organisations for the timely intervention, describing it as a major relief to their long-standing healthcare challenges.
The outreach forms part of Tiyoma Charitable Organisation’s wider humanitarian mission, which also includes prison visits, donations, and the distribution of medical supplies to schools across the state.
