17 tricycles perish in Kano inferno 
The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the destruction of at least 17 tricycles and two petrol tankers in two separate fire outbreaks in filling stations in the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the service, Malam Saminu Abdullahi, stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano
Abdullahi said that the incidents happened on Tuesday, adding that the first incident happened at AA Ayagi Filling Station in Kanye village on Gwarzo Road in Kabo Local Government Area (LGA) of the state at about 8:45 p.m.
He said the control room of the service received a distress call at about 20:45 hours from one of its personnel, Mr Muhammad Abdulsalam on the incident.
Abdullahi said that firefighters from the Rijiyar Zaki division were deployed to the area, where they met a petrol tanker conveying petrol engulfed in flames while offloading its fuel.
He said the tanker with registration number XPB 999 FA and owned by AA Ayagi Company, had discharged fuel from two compartments into an underground tank, while three other compartments containing about 5,000 litres of petroleum products were being offloaded when the fire started.
“The inferno completely destroyed the tanker truck,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the second outbreak took place at Al-Wahida Nigeria Limited Filling Station, Rimin Kebe Karshen Kwalta, in Nassarawa LGA of the state.
Abdullahi said a tanker owned by BA Bello Company and bearing registration number KHX 29 XA, was conveying about 45,000 litres of petroleum products.
He said that the fire started during the offloading process, destroying the tanker head and part of its body, as well as 17 tricycles (Adaidaita Sahu) parked nearby.
He said that firefighters were able to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading further, while some petroleum products and parts of the tanker body were salvaged.
Abdullahi said that another fire incident was recorded at Kundila Quarters, near SALSA College, where one room, a toilet and a corridor in a residential building were destroyed.
Also, speaking, the Director of the service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged filling station operators and fuel tanker drivers to strictly adhere to safety measures during fuel handling and offloading to prevent avoidable disasters.
