170 migrants rescued during crossing in eastern Mediterranean
The Cypriot coastguard said on Monday that it had rescued 61 migrants from the sea south-east of the island of Cyprus.
According to Cypriot media, the migrants came from Syria and Lebanon.
The Greek coastguard separately reported that dozens of people were found and picked up in the Aegean Sea over the last two days.
While it was unclear where the migrants had come from, the 112 people had crossed from Turkey to the islands of Kalymnos, Farmakonisi and Kos.
Accidents were frequent with smugglers repeatedly bringing migrants from Turkey, Syria, Egypt and Libya to countries in the European Union.
On June 14, hundreds of migrants attempting to cross from Libya to Italy drowned when an overcrowded fishing boat sank off the Greek coast.
Some 104 people survived and 82 bodies were recovered.
