4 killed by terrorists at Immigration facility in Kebbi
The Nigeria Immigration Service has confirmed a terror attack on its facilities in Kangiwa, a border town in Kebbi State.
The service’s spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, said in a statement that the terrorists killed three contractors and a local watchman.
“The attack led to the death of four persons, including a local watchman and three contractors,” Mr Udo said. “We also recorded substantial damages to our security facilities. No immigration officers were killed during the attack.”
The damaged facilities are believed to be telecom masts being installed as part of the e-border security facilities being installed by the service along Nigerian borders.
Mr Udo said the service is actively working with other security agencies “to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts and bring them to justice.”
According to him, the service is undeterred by the attack in carrying on with its core mandate of border security in tandem with the goal of securing the nation.
Earlier, the police had confirmed the attack, and said it was likely carried out by Lakurawa terrorists.
The police also identified three of those killed in the attack as Airtel officials working on a telecom mast.
The police spokesperson in Kebbi, Nafiu Abubakar, said the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani and Comptroller of Immigration, Muhammad Lawali, had deployed operatives to the scene of the incident.
He added that the deceased were evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
Lakurawa is a new armed group operating in parts of Sokoto and Kebbi states, and have been involved in cattle rustling and attack on communities in the two states.
