40 CBOs Demand Senator’s Action on Roads, Agriculture, Empowerment in Jigawa Northeast

Communities across the Jigawa Northeast Senatorial District have formally presented their 2026 priority demands to their representative at the National Assembly, urging urgent attention to critical development needs in the zone.
The demands were submitted under the banner of a coalition of Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), comprising more than 40 groups drawn from eight local government areas of the senatorial district.
Presenting the document, the chairman of the coalition, Comrade Ahmed Illah, explained that the annual exercise is aimed at ensuring that grassroots priorities are captured in public budgeting and policy implementation.
According to him, the submissions reflect inputs gathered through town hall meetings, community engagement sessions, written memoranda and other formal consultations, with a strong focus on projects within the constitutional mandate of the Federal Government.
Comrade Illah said the key demands include increased agricultural support for farmers, improved economic empowerment programmes for youths, women and persons with disabilities, as well as the renovation of schools and healthcare facilities to enhance access to quality education and medical services.
He added that the communities are also calling for urgent attention to critical infrastructure, particularly the reconstruction of the Gamayin–Hadejia road, described as a strategic link between the zone and Bauchi State, serving no fewer than 70 communities whose social and economic activities depend on it.
“The road has remained in a deplorable condition since the devastating floods of 2020, causing persistent transportation challenges,” he said.
The coalition also stressed the need for the completion of the Kwanar Zaki–Kafin-Hausa–Jahun road project, which was awarded for reconstruction in 2018 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The engagement featured a review of ongoing development projects in the zone, with stakeholders underscoring the importance of sustained collaboration between government and civil society to effectively address community needs.
Representing the Senator, Hon. Engr. Sabo Muhammad Yankoli, Special Adviser to the Governor of Jigawa State, highlighted the lawmaker’s achievements over the past two and a half years, including the sponsorship of bills on security, education and healthcare, as well as constituency projects currently underway across the district.
Also speaking, Hon. Habibu Khamisu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Stakeholders Engagement, commended the coalition and other civil society groups for their proactive role, describing the exercise as a vital democratic process that promotes participatory governance and inclusive development.
In his response, the Senator acknowledged receipt of the submissions, praised the coalition’s commitment to community development and assured stakeholders of his readiness to take the necessary legislative and administrative steps to address the identified needs.
