Abubakar takes command of North East Theatre amidst Boko Haram tension
Amidst concerns over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in Borno, the Army Headquarters has deployed a new commander to take charge of operations in the axis.
The 15th Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar has had over a decade of operational and instructional experiences in the region.
He had served as Commander Sector 3 OPHK and the Multi National Joint Task Force in Monguno, and was General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPHK Maiduguri.
Abubakar was also the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN in Plateau, from where he moved to Abuja as Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies at the National Defence College.
In his farewell address, Major General Shaibu expressed gratitude to the officers and personnel for their cooperation during his tenure as Theatre Commander, which was marked by numerous operations into terrorists’ enclaves.
General Shaibu emphasised the importance of continuing to fight with dedication and professionalism to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and in the defence of the territorial integrity of the country.
He urged the troops to extend the same cooperation and loyalty to the new Commander, whom he described as a veteran of the Theatre.
