Yobe: Relief for villagers as philanthropist constructs bridge to end years of suffering

A philantrophist, Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah, has provided funds for the construction of a bridge linking Rugan Fulani, Dubai and neighboring communities in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The Syndicate reports that for years, the only access route for these communities has been rendered nearly impassable during the rainy season, trapping residents and cutting them off from essential services.
The locals had in desperate search for solution, begun pooling resources to fund the bridge construction and posted it on the social media.
The villagers hailed the intervention saying it will end years of hardship and isolation.
Malam Husaini Garba, the ward head of Dubai said for years they had to endure the hardship of accessing essential services by making a 15 kilometre detour.
“We’ve lost children and even a woman to flooding. Pregnant women and traders had to take a 15km detour, now, thanks to Kashim Tumash, our suffering may finally end,” the community head said.
He said that apart from the bridge in their community, there are crossings in other communities that need rehabilitation.
A resident Malama Adama Saleh said women and children suffer the most. “Politicians forget us after elections, but Tumsah heard our cries.”
Mr. Hassan Joda, who is heading tge bridge’s construction team, said that Tumsah’s intervention would restore hope to the people.
“This road has been in a deplorable state for years, damaging lives and property. During floods, children miss school, and even accessing food becomes a struggle.”
“Desperate for a solution, locals had begun pooling resources to fund repairs—until a social media post about their plight caught Barrister Tumsah’s attention.
“Barrister Kashim Tumash responded positively, funding the entire project. And we hope the amount will cover completion, but we’ve only just begun.”
