Jigawa Govt Trains 250 Arabic Teachers

The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commenced the training of 250 Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers on the use of modern tools in the classroom.
The training was organised in partnership with the Jigawa state College of Education, Gumel, and the state College of Legal Studies, Ringim.
The participants were drawn from primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
The chairman of SUBEB, Professor Haruna Musa, who visited one of the training centres at Takur Site Special Primary School in Dutse, said the training was to address “identified and accumulated challenges in teaching methods and facilities”.
“The teachers would be trained on new modern methods of teaching, latest teaching apparatus and aids and lesson plan on Arabic language and Islamic knowledge.
“Part of this training is to re-educate the participants on the new innovations on teaching attitudes.
“Remind them that it is important to make lesson plan. These days you see a teacher entering classroom to teach holding nothing than a cane.
“They are to be reminded that, that cane may scare the children which may affect the good relationship between the teacher and the pupils.
“Identifying this challenges and some other things made us to seek the approval of Governor Malam Umar Namadi, who has given us all support and encouragement for this programme to happen.
Prof. Haruna said they got 18 resource persons from the two state owned colleges who are experts in different fields of Arabic and Islamic knowledge to train the teachers.
“The training will pay attention on the teachers dressing and appearance in school and classrooms. This is very important been a teacher is a role model to his pupils and students.”
He said that as the first batch, they are expected to share the knowledge they learned with their colleagues.
One of the participants, Malam Ibrahim Kude described the training as a “good step to improve teaching and learning for qualitative education.
“This the first time where only Arabic and Islamic knowledge teachers are being trained on their job. Another impressive thing is how the resources person were selected and the topics chosen for the training.”
