Red Cross restates commitment to effective response to disasters in Jigawa

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has expressed readiness to collaborate with Jigawa State Government to enhance effectiveness in responding to disasters in the state.
The NRCS particularly said it was prepared to be a key partner in the implementation of the Shock Response and Social Protection (SRSP) project in the state.
The Syndicate reports that Shock Response and Social Protection (SRSP) project aims to leverage existing social safety nets to respond more effectively to various shocks, such as natural disasters and economic crisis.
The NRCS Director, Disaster Management, Mr Timothy Ali Yohanna made this known to The Syndicate on the sidelines of a disaster and emergency response management stakeholder meeting on Wednesday in Dutse.
The director commended Governor Umar Namadi for the support being given to the implementation of the SRSP project in the state.
He promised to strengthen partnership on effective humanitarian response preparedness with Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to achieve the desired results.
On the stakeholders meeting, Yohanna explained that it was to strengthen existing collaboration and appreciate key partners in the implementation of the Shock Response and Social Protection (SRSP) project in the state.
He said that the NRCS team had paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Hannafi Yakubu to appreciate them for their active support and collaboration since the commencement of the SRSP project in the state.
“The visit will also strengthen the partnership between NRCS and SEMA towards effective humanitarian preparedness and response, as well as to present branded project souvenirs as a symbol of appreciation and partnership.”
He said the NRCS-branded items include school bags, water flasks, T-shirts, face-caps and diaries.
“The souvenirs were handed over as a token of appreciation for the invaluable contribution of SEMA towards the success of the SRSP project, especially in the LGAs of Miga, Auyo, and Hadejia,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Planning, SEMA, who received the officials on behalf of the Executive Director, appreciated UNICEF, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and other partners for bringing the SRSP intervention to Jigawa state.
He recognised the significance of anticipatory actions and pledged SEMA’s continued commitment to humanitarian coordination and emergency preparedness efforts across the state.
The high-level NRCS delegation included Mr. Ibrahim Amuda, Disaster Management Officer and SRSP Project Focal Person, Kefas Yakubu Shutty, as well as its Jigawa state branch management team.
