We won’t waiver in securing Kebbi State, vows Gov. Idris
Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris says he won’t waiver in ensuring the safety and security of the entire state.
He spoke on Sunday when the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Birnin Kebbi
“As a responsible government we will not fold our arms and see our people experiencing insecurity.
“So, we will continue to do everything humanly possible to enable all the peace loving residents of the state sleep with all their two eyes closed,” the governor added.
Dr Idris also called for the establishment of an Air Force Base in Kebbi State to further solidify the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry.
According to him, the NAF could use the fully equipped airport in Birnin Kebbi for its operations.
Dr Idris decried the recurring menace of banditry especially in Zuru, Sakaba and Danko-Wasagu local government areas.
He said that bandits routinely intrude into the state from neighbouring Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, adding that the state also borders Niger and Benin Republics.
The governor told the CAS that the rampaging bandits had forced people to abandon their farms, thereby posing a threat to food security.
Dr Idris said the administration would partner the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies to combat the menace posed by the armed bandits, and commended NAF for it sustained onslaught against the terrorists.
The COAS had earlier commended the governor for his support to the military and the tireless efforts in steering the affairs of the state towards meaningful growth and development.
The COAS also acknowledged the giant strides made by the state in the area of agriculture, including sustained support to rice and wheat farmers, which has bolstered prosperity and economic growth.
He also mentioned the Governor’s efforts in boosting education and a myriad of empowerment initiatives as well as programmes to uplift the well-being of the people.
The CAS said Kebbi state is strategic to Nigeria’s security and stability, assuring that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain committed restoring peace across the country.
He lamented over the increasing activities of the Lakurawa bandits, saying the ugly development could erode the successes recorded in restoring peace to the state.
Abubakar said that the visit was to brainstorm with military chiefs on ground to consolidate the gains recorded in the fight against terrorism and banditry in the state.
