Katsina Govt Denies Payment of Stipends To Christian Clerics
Katsina State Government has dismissed as false, reports alleging that it has approved stipends to Christian clerics.
It said that the report initially published by SaharaReporters “is fake news without basis,” adding that it has never issued any policy, directive, or statement to this effect.
The government said in a statement issued by Commissioner of Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango that the fake news “risk amplifying sectarian tensions and inciting conflict”.
It added that such fake report has the tendency to undermine public trust, inflames communities, and lead to unnecessary conflict.
“We therefore urge media outlets and other social platforms to verify information through official channels before publication.”
The government cautioned residents against politicising public peace, saying the administration of Governor Dikko Radda believes in the constitutional right to freedom of religion and is committed to the protection of all faith communities.
“Our communities thrive when we choose peace, fact-based reporting, and cooperation rather than rumor-mongering
“We are resolute to implement policies that promote respect, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among all faith communities.
“We therefore call on all religious faithfuls in the state to live in peace and harmony so as to promote social cohesion.”
