By-election: Police Arrest 288 thugs, recover weapons in Kano
… As CP Bakori expresses concern over violence, electoral malpractices
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 288 suspected thugs engaged in violence to disrupt Saturday’s by-elections for Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono State Constituencies.
The arrest was announced by the command Spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement.
He said that weapons were recovered from the suspects and they will be charged for various electoral offences, including the disruption of the election process.
Kiyawa said that the command, under the leadership of CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, conducted clearance operations spearheaded by the Kano State Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, to ensure peaceful and credible election in the two constituencies.
He listed exhibits recovered from the suspects to include one pump action rifle, gour locally made guns, and other dangerous weapons, such as bows and arrows, cutlasses, knives, stones, catapults, and clubs.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify their sponsors and collaborators. The Command assures the public that all individuals found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Bakori, has issued a strong warning that all forms of electoral manipulation, violence, and malpractice will not be tolerated.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue being law-abiding and to cooperate fully with security agencies. Citizens are also urged to report any suspicious activities to the police.
