Emir of Zuru dies at 81 in London hospital

The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, retired Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami, has died on Saturday in a London hospital.

The Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar-Dutsinmari disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.

The deceased, aged 81, left behind four wives and seven children.

Before his installation as Emir of Zuru, Mohammed Sani Sami had served in the Nigerian Army, which he joined in 1963, and rose to the rank of Major General before his retirement in 1990.

He was Commander of the Brigade of Guards, and served as Governor of Bauchi State after the coup of 31 December 1983 that brought late General Muhammadu Buhari as Head of State.

“Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course,” the statement added.
