By-Election: INEC Transcript Confirms Defence Minister’s Victory At Polling Unit
Contrary to earlier reports on Saturday, Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has won his polling unit during the concluded by-election for Garki/Babura federal constituency in Jigawa state.
A statement issued by the Minister’s Personal Assistant, Mati Ali, therefore dismissed the earlier result of Babura Kofar Arewa Polling Unit 001, circulated by mischief makers as absolutely false.
He said that the actual voting point of the Minister was Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, which was convincingly won by the Minister’s All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ali described the earlier reports as “false, untrue, and deliberately misleading”.
“We wish to categorically state that the report is nothing but the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to distort facts and tarnish the good image of the Honourable Minister.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Honourable Minister’s actual polling unit is Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, where His Excellency personally cast his vote.
“The authentic result, as duly released by INEC and announced by the Returning Officer, is as follows: APC: 188 votes, PDP: 164 votes.
“This official result confirms that the Honourable Minister secured a clear and convincing victory in his polling unit in favour of the APC.
“Accordingly, we reaffirm that at Babura Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar emerged victorious during the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday, 17th August, 2025.
“We therefore call on the general public, party members, and the media to disregard the false reports in circulation and place reliance only on the authentic results as declared by INEC,” he added.
The Syndicate reports that Alhaji Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), won the by-election for Babura/Garki federal constituency.
The result was declared by the Returning Officer, Professor Salisu Ibrahim, on Sunday in Babura.
He said the APC candidate secured 38,449 votes to beat his closest rival, Alhaji Auwalu Isah Manzo of the PPeoples emocratic Party (PDP), who recorded 13,519 votes, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Malam Sabo Salisu, who had 2,931 votes.
