Kebbi Govt Denies ADC’s Claim On Fertilizer Contract
The Kebbi State Government has denied claims by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, that it procured adulterated fertilizer for distribution to farmers in the state.
“I want to to make it categorically clear that in the 2025 wet season, Kebbi State Government has not awarded any contract for the procurement of fertilizer,” the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Muazu said at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi.
He therefore said the state government was puzzled with the news carried by some conventional and online media that it bought fertilizer mixed with sand.
The Commissioner said what the government did was to directly purchase fertilizer from local blending plants “in order to encourage our own local industrialists.”
“The three fertilizer companies engaged by State Government for the supply of fertilizer were: Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer blending plant and Contect.
“Also, Mairiga company was engaged by the Local Governments for the procurement of the fertilizer.”
Muazu therefore said “the claims by the ADC to the effect that the Governor has awarded a contract for the procurement of fertilizer is false, null and void”.
It challenged the ADC and anybody who wants to verify that, the government records are available for scrutiny, and also the companies.
“Equally, the Governor, in his own wisdom, graciously approved the introduction of bio-organic fertilizer, of which ten trucks were procured from Contect Agro global Ltd, a well known company in Nigeria as far as bio-organic fertilizer is concerned.
“This is our position and it is so unfortunate that ADC decided to tow the path of destruction. They should have come to the Ministry and make inquiries because our doodoors always open. It is also regrettable that the ADC decided to feed the media with uncorroborated lies.”
