Police Arrest 2 Kidnap Kingpins, 156 Other Suspects In Jigawa

The Jigawa state commissioner of Police, Mr Dahiru Muhammad said the command has arrested two kidnap kingpins and 156 other suspected criminals in the month of August.
Muhammad made this known when the state Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, Comrade Muhammad Zangina led other members on a courtesy visit on Friday in Dutse.
He said that the command has prioritised intelligence gathering and community policing to enhance security across the state.
The police Commissioner assured that they would do everything possible to maintain the status of the state as the most peaceful in the country.
He told the journalists that there has been intense retraining of personnel on investigation of criminal cases and handling of cases in accordance with the law to ensure prompt investigation and prosecution.
“Apart from tracing and arresting criminals, proper investigation to get all necessary evidences and exhibits is very important when the suspect is arraigned in the court of law.
“Another important duty is to prosecute the suspects in the court within the crime jurisdiction and ensure the criminals are convicted according to their offences. This would not be achieved until police has capable legal personnel.”
He assured residents that under his watch, no criminal will go scot free when arrested. “When a criminal is arrested and prosecuted but go free, there is every tendency for him or her to go back and continues committing the crime”.
“That is why I resolved to emphasize training and retraining of officer and men in the two departments to ensure proper and effective prosecutions of criminals and get them convicted”.
According to him, the command has prioritised intelligence gathering, timely security and preventive actions.
He charged operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) to rededicate themselves to their duties, improve their professional conduct, and strengthen intelligence-gathering efforts for enhanced security across the state.
The Commissioner of Police warned against unprofessional conduct, which will cause serious embarrassment to the force, and called on them to cultivate credible informants to boost intelligence gathering and maintain integrity in their dealings.
The CP further charged the operatives to see intelligence gathering as the backbone of policing and carry out their duties with the highest sense of responsibility, confidentiality, and patriotism.
Muhammad expressed appreciation to the media practitioners for their support, urging them to always verify facts before publication and use their platforms to promote peace, security, and unity.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Zangina commended the Commissioner for his open-door policy and proactive approach to crime prevention.
He assured the CP of the chapel’s continuous support in projecting the positive image of the police and providing balanced reportage of its activities.
