Kano Community urges Gov Yusuf to intervene over collapsed bridge 
The Danshana community in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, has called on Gov. Abba Yusuf to intervene over the collapse of Dare Bridge, cutting it off from the state capital.
A cross section of residents of the area said this when they spoke with newsmen on Tuesday in Kano.
Malam Musa Abdullahi, a resident said that the collapsed of the bridge on Monday night after a torrential rain.
“This bridge, the only link connecting Danshana communities to Naibawa, gave way a few days ago but completely collapsed on Monday night as a result of heavy rainfall,” he said.
Another resident, Malam Mustapha Mustapha described the incident as both horrific and devastating.
He emphasized the wide-reaching impact, saying that students, patients, traders, civil servants, and many others who rely on the bridge for their daily survival have been left stranded.
“As I speak to you now, we are all desperately searching for alternative routes to carry on with our daily activities. The only available path requires a long and winding journey, stretching several kilometers and leading to a far-off location,” he said.
He expressed concern over the hardship this will impose on residents, especially young children and women who regularly travel to the Naibawa area for school and medical care.
Mustapha said that signs of the bridge’s deterioration had been visible for a long time, yet no meaningful action was taken to prevent its eventual collapse.
“We are grateful that no lives were lost in the incident, as it happened during the night while it was raining,” he said.
He called on the state government to come to their aid immediately in order to enable them resume their daily activities as they have to go to Kano and other neighboring towns and villages for other socio-economic activities.
Mustapha said that residents had begun to mobilize to storm the government house in order to seek Yusuf’s urgent intervention to ease the suffering brought by the disaster.
He urged parents to closely monitor their children and prevent them from going near the collapsed bridge, emphasizing the danger posed by the roaring water.
