Police Arrest Over 5,100 Suspects, Rescue 113 Kidnapped Victims In Enugu 

 

The Enugu State Police Command says it arrested 5,176 suspects for various offences and rescued 113 kidnapped victims in the last six months.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Bitrus Giwa, made this known to journalists in Enugu.

“Our proactive approach has yielded impressive results in combating crimes across the state. While a few incidents may have occurred beyond our control, we have consistently responded with swift and effective remedial actions,” Giwa said.

He explained that 98 suspects were apprehended for armed robbery, 87 for kidnapping, 50 for murder, 16 for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition, 11 for rape and defilement, and 122 for cult-related offences.

Giwa said that the arrests resulted in the recovery of 105 firearms and ammunition, and the seizure of 71 vehicles.

The Commissioner said among those arrested was 18-year-old Obodoagu Ikediekpere, accused of kidnapping and killing his 5-year-old cousin.

He also said a native doctor, Obieze Levi, alias “E Dey Play E Dey Show” and two accomplices have been charged to court kidnapping and ritual murder, while two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, were arrested and remanded for allegedly kidnapping their kinsman and collecting a ₦10 million ransom.

He commended personnel of the Command and others from  sister security agencies, as well as Governor Peter Mbah for their support, including the establishment of the Command and Control Centre by the governor, which has enhanced crime-fighting across the state.
