MAAUN distributes starter packs to 30 women on Sack-based Cultivation
The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria(MAAUN) has donated starter packs to 30 women who were trained on sack-based cultivation, under its Agricultural Innovation Programme.
The 10-training was organised by the African Institute for Solutions and Development (AIDS), a Development arm of the University in Kano.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director, AISD, Dr Salisu Lawal, urged the beneficiaries to step down the training to others who were not opportuned to attend the training.
Lawal stated that the institute had a plan to organize similar training for youths, and people with special needs.
He appreciated the resource persons for conducting the training and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the knowledge they acquired to enhance their socio-economic status.
In their separate remarks, the two Lead Trainers, Hajiya Aisha Adam and Malam Haruna called on the beneficiaries to put into practice what they have learnt, stressing the AIDS officials will monitor their performance for three months.
They also commended the participants for their cooperation and commitment during the training sessions and urged them to maintain the tempo.
In his remarks, the Vice President Administration, MAAUN, Dr. Habib Abubakar commended the founder of the university, Prof. Adamu Gwarzo for providing the enabling environment and AIDS management for initiating the programme.
He charged the beneficiaries not to dispose of the starter packs as they are meant to be used in practicalizing the knowledge they acquired during the training program.
Also speaking, the District Head of Nassarawa, represented by Alhaji Wakili Garba, urged other organizations to borrow a leaf from MAAUN/AISD by initiating similar training for women and other vulnerable groups.
He also enjoined government at all levels to support similar gestures and provide inputs to the trainees, especially fertilizer to boost agricultural production in the country.
The starter packs presented to the beneficiaries included seeds, fertilizer and empty sacks.
Other management staff of MAAUN and AISD that attended the ceremony were the Director, Internalization of Higher Education, Dr. Lawan Malami Goni, and Dr. Yahaya Danmaraya.
