Nnamdi Kanu Dumps Lawyers As He Opens Defence In Terrorism Charges
Kanu Agabi, a former Attorney-General of the Federation, has applied applied to withdraw his representation of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, standing trial for terrorism before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Agabi who is the lead counsel to Kanu, who is facing a seven-count charge bordering on terrorism filed against him by the Federal Government, on Thursday informed the court that he would no longer be representing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader.
He said that the defendant had decided to take back the case from them.
Othe Senior Advocates of Nigeria involved in the case also announced their withdrawal.
When asked to speak, Kanu told the court that he would henceforth be representing himself pending when he decides to bring in other lawyers.
Kanu declined an offer by the judge, Justice James Omotosho, for the court to assign a lawyer to represent him.
At the resumption of the case, which is for Kanu to open his defence, the IPOB leader argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to try him.
The court on October 16, granted the defendant six consecutive days, beginning from October 23, to open and close his defence in view of the accelerated hearing earlier granted in the case.
