Yobe Govt Sponsors 149 Civil Servants for Training at ASCON

The Yobe State Government has sponsored 149 civil servants for a capacity-building training at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) in Lagos, as part of efforts to strengthen efficiency and professionalism in the state civil service.
The participants, drawn from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), include 48 directors undergoing training in Advance Human Resource Management and 69 staff from the Ministry of Finance participating in Financial Resource Management courses.
Speaking during the send-off ceremony in Damaturu, the Acting Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa Shehu, urged the participants to be worthy ambassadors of the state and to demonstrate excellence throughout the program.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Manpower Development, Alhaji Abbas Isah Bizi, Shehu said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to improving efficiency and performance within the civil service.
“The government is not merely sending you for training; it is investing in the future of Yobe State. The knowledge and skills you will acquire are vital to enhancing the performance of our workforce,” he stated.
Shehu commended Governor Buni for his consistent investment in human capital development, describing it as a key driver of effective governance and service delivery.
He noted that millions of naira have been spent on similar training programs within and outside Nigeria, including in Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, and Saudi Arabia.
According to him, such investments underscore the government’s belief that a well-trained workforce is central to achieving the state’s development goals.
The Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning, Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, described the exercise as historic, noting that all 149 participants were fully sponsored by the state government.
He further disclosed that 32 additional civil servants will attend a one-week Effective Communication course at ASCON, emphasizing that the initiative demonstrates Governor Buni’s strong commitment to building a competent, innovative, and result-oriented civil service in Yobe State.
