North East Development Commission Awards 25km Road Contract in Yobe

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has awarded contract for the reconstruction of the over 25km Damaturu–Buni–Mazga road in Yobe State.
The site was officially handed over to the contractor, Grayland Multiple Investment Limited, on Thursday.
The Syndicate reports that the handing over was performed by Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, the NEDC’s Yobe State Coordinator, who said that the project represents another significant infrastructure initiative by the commission in Yobe state.
Prof. Abbas also said the project is part of Federal Government’s post-recovery infrastructure efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He pointed out that the Commission, led by Mohammed Goni Alkali, has been collaborating closely with the six governors of the North East region to accelerate recovery and development, playing a pivotal role in the process.
“This project is a key part of NEDC’s ongoing mission to provide sustainable infrastructure throughout the North East. It builds on the Commission’s recent successes, such as the completed bridge that connects Damaturu and Gujba, which was damaged by last year’s flooding,” he said.
The NEDC coordinator said similar infrastructure projects are underway in Kaliyari, Jumbam, Potiskum–Tandari, and around the Potiskum Old Prison area, with additional projects being evaluated in partnership with the Yobe State Ministry of Works.
He explained that the Damaturu–Buni–Mazga road is a vital economic link connecting Damaturu to border communities, adding that its reconstruction would boost trade in agricultural produce, mobility, and regional connectivity.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Grayland Multiple Investment Limited, Musa Abubakar Usman, pledged timely completion of the project according to specification.
“We have successfully completed several projects both within and outside the state. So, we are confident that we can finish this project on schedule,” he stated.
On his part, Yobe State Commissioner of Works, Engr. Umaru Wakil Duddaye praised the NEDC for the project, saying the road being reconstructed is the second most crucial road in Yobe after the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway.
He commended the commission for undertaking other projects i the state, including the Ngalda–Mutai road and the Dawasa borehole, which have significantly improved lives in communities throughout the state.
“We are truly thankful to the North East Development Commission for this commendable project. Insha’Allah, the contractor will finish the work by February and return it to the Commission, even ahead of the March deadline,” he stated.
The Commissioner also shared his hope that the next phase of the project would be awarded by December, ensuring a smooth transition and avoiding any delay.
