Katsina Govt To Procure 15 Ambulances, Approves N500m For Cooperatives
The Katsina State Executive Counci on Wednesday approved various projects in the areas of health, education, water supply and community development, including a N500 million fund for the registration of small businesses in rural communities into cooperatives.
Details of the meeting were made known to newsmen by some of the executive council members led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Bala Salisu Zango.
The N500 million would be managed by Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency to group businesses with very small capital—₦30,000, ₦50,000, ₦100,000, or ₦200,000—who often cannot complete normal CAC registration.
“Through this cooperative structure, they will be formally recognized and given easier access to financial support.”
“Each cooperative will draw members from all 361 wards, and beneficiaries will receive funds based on the specific needs of their businesses. With this arrangement, the programme is expected to empower more than 10,000 people across the State, strengthening local enterprises and improving economic opportunities for rural residents.”
In the area of healthcare, the government approved the upgrade of facilities and renovation of Kankara General Hospital, the procurement of 15 ambulances to enhance emergency medical response, and complete sets of hospital equipment for the newly renovated Primary Health Care Centres across the 34 LGAs. it also approved hostel renovation for the school of nursing in Katsina.
In the area of community development, the Council approved the immediate implementation of the Community-Based Seed Production (CBSP) Programme, which will empower 700 youths as certified seed producers.
“The initiative aims to increase the availability of high-quality, climate-resilient seeds for both food and cash crops—strengthening food security, boosting agricultural productivity, and supporting sustainable rural livelihoods.”
It also ordered the procurement of 1,100 motorcycles for Community Development Programme officers to strengthen field operations, improve supervision, and accelerate service delivery.
In the area of water supply, the State Water Board got approval to procure chemicals for water treatment, while in the education sector, 38 new Islamiyya Schools are to be constructed, while 10 primary schools to be renovated in each of the 34 Local Government Areas.
Council also approved the provision of digital infrastructure and fiber-optic internet connectivity for the deployment of Smart Education Solutions at the newly established Model Secondary School, Radda, ahead of its operational takeoff.
To bring relief topoor households, the government is to purchase 120,000 bags of rice, maize, sorghum, and millet for distribution to vulnerable households across all 361 wards of the State.
The Council also approved the state’s ₦5,333,333,333 equity investment in Kano Electricity Distribution Company, raising its equity stake from 15% to 17%.
