Jigawa Govt Earmaks N1bn for Capital Projects In Govt College Birninkudu

The Jigawa State Government has earmarked N1 billion in the proposed 2026 budget for capital projects and other development works at Government College, Birnin Kudu.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, made this known in a speech delivered at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Birnin Kudu Government College Old Boys Association (BIKOBA), held at the college premises.
The SSG, who represented Governor Umar Namadi, assured that the government is committed to addressing the needs and requests presented for the improvement of the school.
“His Excellency, Malam Umar Namadi, has earmarked over N1 billion for the upliftment and development of this premier institution. All the calls, requests and demands raised here today have been duly noted and will be acted upon,” Ibrahim said.
According to him, education as a critical sector and bedrock of societal development, requires collective efforts to enhance.
The SSG said upon assumption of office, Governor Namadi had constituted a technical committee of experts to assess the education sector in the state, in order to generate accurate data to guide policy decisions.
Ibrahim added that the outcome of the exercise led to vital interventions in the sector, including the creation of the Ministry of Basic Education and that of Higher Education to ensure greater focus, efficiency and effective service delivery.
“This approach enables the government to determine what to do, when to do it and where to intervene. It also complements other education reforms and interventions, including the establishment of the Teachers Development Agency, the Senior Secondary Schools Board and other initiatives aimed at addressing challenges in education governance.”
In his remarks, the National President of BIKOBA, Alhaji Ja’afar Usman Muhammad, commended the state government for its sustained commitment to education and the budgetary provision for the comprehensive renovation of the college.
He said the association has intervened in several areas to support the school, including the provision of water supply facilities, desks and chairs, double-decker beds, construction of toilets and a computer laboratory.
Other interventions by the association, he added, include the donation of computers, electricity generators, drugs and medicaments, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, as well as writing and sporting materials for students.
