Jigawa Govt Approves Contracts For Roads, Agriculture, Security

Jigawa State Executive Council on Wednesday approved contracts for various projects covering security, agriculture, roads and other sectors to enhance development across the state.
According to a statement by Sagir Musa Ahmed, Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, among the key approvals during the meeting presided by Governor Umar Namadi, was the total renovation and reconstruction of the Emir of Hadejia Palace at the cost of N1.48 billion.
This was in recognition of its historical, cultural, and traditional significance to the people of the state.
The council also approved the payment of ₦360.2 million as compensation to over 250 persons affected by the expansion of Hadejia Market.
In the area of security, approval was given for the procurement of 10 Toyota Hilux vehicles at the cost of ₦870.1 million to enhance security patrol, surveillance, and rapid response operations.
The government also approved N1.2 billion for the comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrade of the state-owned three-star hotel in Dutse.
Meanwhile, the State Executive Council has changed the name of Khadijah University, Majia, to Jigawa State University of Medical and Applied Health Sciences, pending approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“This decision follows the acquisition of the university by the Jigawa State Government and aligns with the present administration’s commitment to expanding access to higher education in medical and applied health sciences for the state’s youth.
“The initiative aims to provide opportunities for students across Jigawa State to pursue careers in medicine, healthcare, and allied professions, thereby addressing workforce needs in the health sector,” the statement added.
In the area of Agriculture, the government has ordered the purchase of an operational vehicle for the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development, approved the rehabilitation of Dembo, Kuda, and Hayin Warde dams at a total cost of over ₦10.88 billion to scale up all-year-round agricultural production, boost food security, create jobs, and increase farmers’ incomes.
Also approved under the sector is the procurement of Pathway Organic Fertiliser at a total cost of Two Hundred and Twenty-Four Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand Naira.
The government said that the initiative is to support climate-smart agriculture, improve soil health, sustainable farming, and environmental protection.
Furthermore, the Jigawa Executive Council has listed six roads for immediate rehabilitation and procurement of roads maintenance equipment for JIRMA at a total cost of ₦9,429,862,274.20.
The affected roads are Roundabout – General Hospital Bulangu – Kafin Hausa Road, Dubantu and Gawuna – Hadejia Road, Yalo – Unguwar Jibril Feeder Roads, Sakwaya – Rurum – Kudai Road, Kazaure – Roni – Takwardawa Road, and Gantsa – Tijiyo – Ahoto Feeder Road.
The approved equipment includes an excavator, Howo tipper truck, pay-loader, and mini roller.
Other projects approved by the Council include the construction of local government Secretariats in Dutse, Ringim, and Kafin Hausa at the cost of ₦693,646,714.74, the construction, renovation, and procurement of equipment at Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma and Federal College of Education, Birniwa at the cost of ₦14,117,601,977.
Also, ₦8,738,465,258.48 was approved for two-storey office block at the New State Secretariat Complex, and the deployment of 100MW Solar PV Panel Assembly Plant and ₦3,974,446,350.00 as the state’s 49% equity investment.
For Kafin Hausa, the state government has approved ₦2,411,392,651.16 for the remodelling of the market there to boost revenue and employment, and approved ₦941,641,586.75 for the procurement of heavy-duty trucks for Maigatari Export Processing Zone.
Also approved, are ₦1.242 billion for constituency projects, ₦272.9 million for two new monitoring vehicles for NG-CARES, ₦907.528 million for procurement of textbooks, uniforms, solar systems, and digital tools, and ₦882.714 million for perimeter fencing, gates, vehicles, motorcycles, and buses to strengthen school security and supervision.
