Rivers lawmakers begin impeachment proceedings against Fubara
The Rivers state house of assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday.
The proceedings commenced during plenary presided by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule.
Twenty six lawmakers signed the motion accusing the governor and his deputy of gross misconduct. The motion was tabled by the majority leader, Major Jack.
The proceeding was a reenactment of the hostilities between Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, which led to the declaration of state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.
The hostility was renewed when Fubara defected to the All Progressives Congress like the lawmakers and was instantly declared as the party leader in the state, a stand opposed by Wike who is not a member of the party.
