He said other elected officials are also part of the plan to leave the ANPP, citing escalating legal disputes within the party and avoid the Zamfara situation when the All Progressives Congress that won all elections in the state in 2019 was disqualified by a court.
Hussaini, who represents Dala constituency, told reporters on Wednesday in Kano that remaining in the NNPP is politically risky for the governor and other elected officials.
According to him, the NNPP has been bedevilled by leadership crisis that could jeopardise their mandates as future elections approach.
“There is an existing court judgement that recognises a specific faction of the NNPP. We cannot remain in the party and risk a repetition of the legal disaster that occurred in Zamfara State.
“This is why there are growing calls for Governor Abba Yusuf and our leader, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or another stable political platform”, the lawmaker stated.
He said the Assembly has been actively engaging both the governor and Kwankwaso to reach a consensus on a strategic exit from the NNPP.
Hussaini argued that if the internal leadership crisis in NNPP and factional court cases are not resolved, a court could eventually rule against the candidates presented by the party in the next general election.
“This would mean that even if Governor Yusuf and other elected officials win elections under the NNPP, they could be removed by the courts—just as the APC was in Zamfara.”
