Man To Die By Hanging For Raping 15-year-old Boy In Jigawa
Justice Ado Yusif Birnin-kudu of Jigawa State High Court, on Thursday, convicted and sentenced one Abubakar Muhammad, alias Akuya, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of raping a 15-year-old boy.
The offence occurred in Nomi Village, Taura Local Government Area of the state.
In his judgement, the judge said that court was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the convict committed the offence contrary to Section 3(1) a&b of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, and punishable under Section 3(2) 4 & 5 of the VAPP Law, 2012, of Jigawa State.
In addition to the death sentence, the court ordered the convict to pay Five Million Naira as restitution to the victim.
The prosecution led by Barr. Yahaya Abdullahi, the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) described the judgement as sound and justly delivered.
He added that this will serve as a strong deterrent to others who might contemplate such heinous crime.
Barr. Yahaya Abdullahi commended the state judiciary for its steadfast commitment to justice and the protection of citizens’ rights.
He said that the State Government remains committed to the full implementation of the VAPP Law and other legal instruments designed to protect citizens from all forms of violence..
