Machina Modern Market to Boost Cross Border, Regional Trade – Commissioner

The historic border town of Machina is now home to a new modern market, a key part of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s strategy to stimulate economic growth through strategic infrastructure in Yobe State.
The Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon. Abdullahi Bego stated this during a media tour in Machina.
He said that the construction of the market began in August 2025, with significant progress achieved within just four months.
Bego said the facility is designed to provide conducive environment for trade and businesses to boost the economy of the agriculturally important border community.
“The project reflects a broader development model that is gaining regional recognition.
“A recent delegation from another northern state visited Yobe specifically to study its market designs, highlighting the state’s emerging role as a benchmark for economic development in the region.
“The fact that they came to learn from us, confirms that His Excellency, Governor Buni, is setting a model for economic development in the north.
“As peace returns through the efforts of our security agencies, we are committed to providing an environment where people can prosper through businesses and agriculture,” the Commissioner said.
On his part, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmad Buba, whose ministry oversees the projects, said, “Yobe produces a significant amount of sesame seed, with exporters noting that some of the finest quality comes from here, particularly Machina.”
He added, “His Excellency initiated these processing hubs to add value through grading and packaging before the product is distributed nationally or exported.”
The government expressed confidence that these combined investments in commercial infrastructure and agricultural value addition will accelerate post-conflict economic recovery.
