Defection To APC: Kano Governor Seeks More Time
The anticipated defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has again been put on hold to allow him more time to widen consultations.
The governor, elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has been consulting widely over his decision to defect, sources familiar with the moves said.
Yusuf’s anticipated defection has been rescheduled five times, first on January 5, then to January 12, and later January 15, the day the APC in Kano was to commence e-registration of party members.
The party had to suspend the commencement of the exercise when it became obvious that the governor was not ready.
Another date, January 16 was fixed after the Federal Executive Council Meeting in Abuja, and that too failed to hold.
Sources said the the governor allegedly fixed January 20 to formally defect to the APC, a day after his meeting with President Bola Tinubu, but that too had to be suspended for Governor Abba Yusuf to conclude consultations and negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Kano state chapter of the APC has flagged off the online membership registration, to avoid wasting precious time while the governor remains undecided.
