Jigawa LG Service Records 155 On-Duty Deaths, 1,332 Retires in 2025

No fewer than 155 personnel of the Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission died while in service in 2025, the commission has said.
The Executive Chairman of the commission, retired DIG Uba Bala Ringim, said this while briefing journalists on the commission’s activities and performance for the year under review.
Ringim said 72 deaths were recorded across the 27 local government councils, while 83 personnel died under the Local Education Authorities, bringing the total number of deaths to 155.
Despite the losses, the chairman,,said the commission recorded notable achievements in staff development and welfare.
He said that 1,682 workers were promoted, while 178 personnel underwent various training programmes aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery at the grassroots.
According to him, the commission supported extensive capacity-building programmes involving 163 staff across the 27 local government councils, while 15 officers attended professional conferences and courses in Abuja, Kaduna and at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos.
“These programmes significantly strengthened professionalism, efficiency and institutional capacity at the grassroots level,” Ringim said.
He said that the commission paid over N58.5 million as in-service training allowances to 658 eligible officers in 2025 to encourage continuous professional development.
The chairman also said a special in-service training programme was organised for sanitary overseers, who undertook studies at the Jigawa State College of Health Technology, Jahun, with two officers selected from each of the 27 local government areas, totalling 54 participants.
In addition, Ringim noted that project allowances were paid to 152 local government staff who benefited from sponsored academic programmes, including MSc, BSc, HND and Diploma courses, in recognition of their contributions to development-oriented projects.
On workforce exits, he said that 1,332 workers retired in 2025, comprising 628 from local government councils and 704 from the Local Education Authorities.
Ringim, however, identified frequent retirements without prompt replacement, delays in filling vacancies created by deaths, and the resulting strain on administrative capacity as some of the key challenges confronting the commission.
