Tinubu announces Nasamu as ambassador-designate without Senate clearance
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of four persons as ambassador-designates, among them Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, whose name was not on the list of ambassadors confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
The said Dakingari, according to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, is the former governor of Kebbi State, who will go to Turkey as ambassador-designate ahead of the scheduled state visit to the country by President Tinubu, next week.
Even so, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman is not the correct name of the former Kebbi State Governor, who bears Usman Saidu Nasamu Dakingari.
In the list submitted to the Senate by the President, Kebbi had two nominees, both career ambassadors, and their nominations were among the 67 confirmed. They are Abubakar Musa Musa and Ambassador Haidara Mohammed Idris.
Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said in the statement issued on Thursday that President Tinubu confirmed the postings of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as the ambassador-designate to France, and Colonel Lateef Are as the ambassador-designate to the United States of America.
Also confirmed by the President is the posting of Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, former ambassador to South Korea, as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
“Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, former governor of Kebbi, is the ambassador-designate to Turkey, where the President is scheduled to begin a state visit next week.
“In a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu urged the ministry to notify the governments of the four countries about the ambassador-designates, in accordance with diplomatic procedures.”
The 67 ambassadorial nominees confirmed by the Senate in December include 34 career ambassadors and 33 non-career ambassadors.
The career ambassadors are Ambassador Nwaobiala Chukwuemeka (Abia), Betso Maimunah Ibrahim (Adamawa), Monica Enebechi (Anambra), Ambassador Mohammed Lele (Bauchi) and Syndoph Endoni (Bayelsa).
Others include Ambassador Ahmed Monguno (Borno), Ambassador Adams Jane Bassey (Cross River), Ambassador Clark-Omeru Alexandra Efe (Delta), Goeffrey Ijiomah Chima David (Ebonyi), Odumah Yvonne Ehinosen (Edo), Ambassador Wasa Segun Ige (Edo) and Ambassador Adeyemi Adebayo Emmanuel (Ekiti).
Also confirmed were Ambassador Okechukwu Kingsley Onaga (Enugu), Ambassador Magaji Umar (Jigawa), Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru (Kaduna), Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad (Kano), Ambassador Shehu Ilu Barde (Katsina), Ambassador Aminu Nasir (Katsina), Abubakar Musa Musa (Kebbi), Ambassador Haidara Mohammed Idris (Kebbi), Ambassador Bako Adamu Umar (Kogi) and Ambassador Sulu-Gambari Olatunji Ahmed (Kwara).
Ambassador Ramat Mohammed Omobolanle (Lagos), Ambassador Shaga John Shamah (Nasarawa), Sallau Hamza Mohammed (Niger), Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami (Niger), Adeola Ibrahim Mopelola (Ogun), Reuben Abimbola Samuel (Ondo) and Ambassador Akande Wahab Adekola (Osun) were also confirmed.
Others on the list include Ambassador Arewa Esther (Oyo), Ambassador Gargadi Joseph John (Plateau), Ambassador Luther Ogbomode Ayo-Kalata (Rivers), Danladi Yakubu Nyaku (Taraba) and Bello Dogon-Daji Haliru (Sokoto).
The non-career ambassadors confirmed are Senator Grace Bent (Adamawa), Senator Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom), Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu (Abia), Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu (Anambra), Professor Mahmud Yakubu (Bauchi), Ambassador Philip Ikurusi (Bayelsa), Mr Paul Oga Adikwu (Benue), Vice Admiral Ibas Ibok-Ette (Cross River), Mr Reno Omokri (Delta) and Abasi Braimah (Edo).
Others are Mrs Erelu Adebayo (Ekiti), Olumilua Oluwayimika Ayotunwa (Ekiti), Ugwuanyi Ifeanyi (Enugu), Mrs Chioma Ohaikim (Imo), retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (Kano), Tasiu Maigari (Katsina), Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu (Kogi), Olufemi Pedro (Lagos), Muhammed Ubandoma Aliyu (Nasarawa), Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo) and Ambassador Joseph Olusola Iji (Ondo).
Also confirmed were Olufemi Fani-Kayode (Osun), Professor Isaac Adewole (Osun), Mrs Fatima Florence Ajimobi (Oyo), Mrs Sulola Akande (Oyo), Dr Yakubu Gambo (Plateau), Senator Nora Daduut (Plateau), Onueze Chukwujinka Okocha (Rivers), Dr Kulu Haruna Abubakar (Sokoto) and Jerrymon Samuel Manwe (Taraba).
