Kaugama local council of Jigawa constructs nomadic school blocks to address out-of-school children
The Kaugama local government council in Jigawa State, has built nomadic school blocks to enroll out-of-school children in the area.
Alhaji Musa Muhammad, Secretary, Information Chapel and Information Officer of the local council stated this in a statement on Friday.
Muhammad said that the school blocks were constructed in Kwango Wailare in Unguwar Jibrin and Jarkasa in Bingimama Ward to enroll large number of children who were out-of-school.
Speaking on the issue, the Kaugama local council chairman, Hon. Usman Masaki Dansule reiterated his commitment to improving education in the area with all necessary support to secure the future of the children in the area.
He promised to always work toward the actualisation of the 12-point agenda of Gov. Umar Namadi to ensure improvement in the quality of life of the people at grassroots.
Jigawa State has a significant number of out-of-school children, with reports indicating over 330,000 children were out of school, accounting for part of Nigeria’s 10.2 million out-of-school children.
The State Government, in collaboration with UNICEF, aims to reintegrate these children into the educational system, with a focus on providing vocational skills and psychosocial support.
The dropout rates are alarming, with 15% at the primary level and 22% at the secondary level. To address this, the government has launched initiatives like the “Begging-Free Zone” program, which has transitioned 2,000 children from the streets into government-owned Tsangaya schools.
