‘Zone B deserves it’s turn’: Pro-Bomai group launches 2027 gubernatorial bid

A youth coalition, the Bomai Yobe East Solidarity Movement, has formally called on Senator Ibrahim Mohammad Bomai to contest the Yobe State governorship election in 2027.
The public endorsement came during the inauguration of the group’s new executives in Damaturu at the weekend, marking an early mobilization effort as political preparations for the next elections gained momentum.
The group’s Coordinator, Abba Soso Geidam, stated the movement was established specifically to rally support for Senator Bomai’s candidacy.
He expressed strong confidence in the senator’s record, asserting his developmental achievements were unmatched.
“Senator Bomai’s visionary leadership and impactful representation necessitated this call,” Geidam said.
Geidam also highlighted Bomai’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme, which in 2025 sent 51 youths to India for degrees and master’s programs, alongside investments in capacity building, business grants, and humanitarian interventions.
Alhaji Ibrahim Mohamed, Pioneer Secretary of the Bomai Support Group, cited the senator’s 35-year civil service career and his decisive 2018 electoral victory, where he unseated an incumbent by a wide margin.
“In the last six years in the Senate, his achievements have already surpassed those of some senators from the state who have served for much longer,” Mohamed said.
He praised Bomai’s rapid rise, noting his unprecedented appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance and Transparency as a second-term senator.
On the critical issue of political zoning, Mohammed advocated for a power shift to Yobe Central (Zone B).
“Since 1999, only the northern part of the state has produced governors, with the exception of former Gov. Mamman Ali, who died after 20 months in service in 2007,” stated.
“It will only be fair to give Zone B the opportunity to complete the tenure of Mamman Ali, which abruptly ended in tragedy. I am totally in support of this call.”
