Jigawa Pension Board disburses N1.4bn to 564 retirees
The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has disbursed over N1.4 billion to 564 retirees.
Addressing the beneficiaries at the Pension House prior to the disbursement, the State Accountant General, Alhaji Abdullahi S.G. Shehu described Jigawa’s pension model as one of the best in the country.
The AG reiterated Gov. Umar Namadi’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants and retirees, emphasizing that Jigawa’s pension scheme is exemplary, attracting visits from other states seeking to learn from its approach.
He commended the Governor for his dedication to enhancing the scheme.
Shehu said that since assuming office in May 2023, Namadi had injected over N11billion to strengthen and improve the pension scheme, ensuring its status as the best in the country.
The Accountant General said that the board was up-to-date in the payment of entitlements to retirees, including those who died in active service.
“Jigawa State has implemented the new national minimum wage of N70,000, providing civil servants with one of the best salary packages in the country” the AG said.
On his part, the Executive Secretary, Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, disclosed that a total sum of N1,429,201,208.92 would be distributed among the 564 retirees, saying that, this amount included retirement benefits, death benefits, and death pension balances.
Dr. Aminu said that N1,191,804,237.17 would be paid to 485 civil servants who retired from active service, while N226,547,197.84 would go to the families of 71 deceased civil servants, and N10,849,773.91 would be disbursed to the families of eight pensioners as death pension balances.
The Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to timely disbursement of entitlements, including the payment of monthly pensions during on the first day of each month.
He emphasized the state government’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of its workers, ensuring they enjoy a secure and fulfilling life post-service.
