Da’awa Group empowers ex- labourer, roadside blacksmith with trade capital in Kano
A Kano based Islamic Mission Group, the Da’awa and Educational Initiative (MDEI), has empowered a 70-year-old former labourer, Malam Mamuda Salisu, with a donation of N30,000 t to enable him start a fruit selling business.
The donation was presented to the beneficiary in Darmanawa in Tarauni Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Sunday by the Chairman of the group, Malam Zakariyya Ahmad.
Speaking, Ahmad said that the gesture was aimed at providing business capital for him to start a business and become self-reliant.
He said that the money was raised at the Quarterly Review Meeting of the group on Feb. 7, through donations from individuals.
“We usually go round to look for individuals in the society who are willing to get engaged or who cannot engage in menial jobs, but who are willing to start businesses of their own.
“What we do is to seek for donations from individuals at our review meetings, it is this money that we donate to these people, so they can get engage and start their own businesses.
“This man has been buying rotten fruits from the Yenlemo Orange Market on credit and he sells same to manage his life with the little profits he makes daily.
“We feel that he can buy and sell good fruits and make better profit with his own capital,” Ahmad stated.
He said that the amount was reached after he confirmed that it was enough to start a legitimate fruits business.
Ahmad added that the group would visit the beneficiary periodically to monitor how his business was faring.
The group also donated N20,000 to an octogenarian roadside blacksmith, Malam Isa, operating in Darmanawa Dantsinke, to acquire some tools for his business.
Presenting the cash, the Chairman said that the money was to enable him acquire local tools to help ease his business.
“As a blacksmith, he needs some vital tools for his business, but these are lacking because he has no money.
“I think with the little cash donation, he can improve on his business by acquiring local tools needed, ” he said.
Responding, the beneficiaries promised to put the money into judicious use and thanked the donors for the gift.
