Kano ADC stakeholders insist on Ibrahim Khalil as governorship candidate for 2027

Kano State stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have resolved that the election of Malam Ibrahim Khalil as the governorship candidate for the party 2027 elections, must be upheld
Addressing newsmen on Sunday in Kano, the spokesperson for the stakeholders, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad Mabo, said that Khalil was the dully elected governorship candidate of the party, having won the May 22, primaries, with 55,851 votes against his opponent’s 4,000 votes.
Mabo who spoke on behalf of the Expanded State Interim Leadership Team (ESILT) of the party, said the result of the election was clear, requiring no further interpretation.
“The Kano State ADC has firmly resolved that Malam Ibrahim Khalil’s mandate must be respected. We will no longer tolerate interference or cooperate with her on any party assignment, no matter who issues such a directive.
“The election was clear: there was a winner and a loser. Our endorsement is not just about the primary results but a strategic decision based on Kano’s political history and local peculiarities,” he stressed.
Speaking further, he said Khalil had grassroots appeal, as well as great influence among women and youth through his radio programs, and his reputation as a unifier respected across religious divides.
Mabo stated that Khalil’s loyalty to the party was not indoubt as a founding member of the ADC Legacy Group.
He condemned what he termed “undue and unwarranted interference” by Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammed, the former Deputy National Chairman (Values and Ethics) of the party.
Mabo accused her of attempting to block the announcement of primaries results and replacing genuine stakeholders with her allies.
“Being a national officer does not confer the power to dictate the affairs of a local chapter arbitrarily.
“The ADC Constitution defines the powers of each organ, and no provision empowers the Deputy National Chairman to superintend over state chapters,” he stated.
Mabo cautioned that ignoring Khalil’s mandate could lead to electoral disaster similar to the 2011 CPC crisis.
