Jigawa Govt to establish 3 Cattle Ranches

The Jigawa State Government has approved the establishment of three modern cattle ranches across the state, towards modernizing agricultural practices and unlocking the state economic potential.
This was part of the resolutions of the State Executive Council Meeting, signed by the State’s Commissiober for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed.
Ahmed stated that the ranches would be located in each of the three senatorial districts of the state to ensure even spread.
“The Council has officially approved the establishment of three (3) modern cattle ranches, to be located across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“This landmark decision marks a significant step towards modernizing agricultural practices, boosting the local economy, and fostering lasting peace in the region.
“The initiative is designed in strict alignment with the Federal Government’s National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP 2018–2028), aiming to transition cattle rearing in Nigeria from nomadic pastoralism to a more sustainable, profitable, and secure sedentary model,” he said.
Ahmed said that the project would be executed through a Public-Private Partnership(PPP) to ensure accountability and sustainability.
“To ensure the sustainability and global competitiveness of these ranches, the Jigawa State Government will execute this project under a robust Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework. The ranches will be anchored by a professionally managed livestock value chain.
“This collaborative approach will leverage private sector efficiency, funding, and technical expertise while the state provides the enabling environment and regulatory oversight.
“The professional management of the value chain will encompass: High yield dairy and beef production, modern veterinary clinics and disease control centers, pasture development and year-round feed and water provision,livestock processing and ppackaging facilities,” he said.
Ahmed said that the planned setting of the ranches in the three senatorial districts of the state was to ensure equitable development across the state.
“The Council approval for the ranches reflect equitable development and economic impact by situating one ranch in each of the three senatorial districts Jigawa North-West (Ringim -Sankara Grazing Reserved 510Ha), Jigawa North-East (Kafin Hausa – Kashamai Grazing Reserved 510Ha), and Jigawa South-West (Kiyawa – Kukar Mekiya Grazing Reserved 510Ha), the State Government ensures that the economic benefits of this massive agricultural investment are equitably distributed,” he said.
Ahmed said that the project was expected to create thousands of jobs as well as to help tackle the perennial farmer-herder clashes in the state.
“Similarly, the project is expected to yield multiple benefits for the people of Jigawa State, including conflict resolution by reducing the perennial farmer-herder clashes by providing dedicated, wellequipped spaces for livestock rearing.
“While, adding to job creation by generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the youth and women in the host communities across the livestock value chain (from feed production to meat and dairy processing) as well as revenue generation in expanding the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through taxes, land leases, and active participation in the national and international beef and dairy markets,” he said.
Ahmed said that the council also approved the procurement of 20 brand new Toyota Hilux vehicles for security agencies operating in the state to boost their operations.
“The Council has approved the procurement of 20no. brand new Toyota Hilux 2025 Model vehicles for security agencies operating across the State at a total cost of ₦2,906,250,000.
“The approval is in line with the His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi FCA administration
commitment to strengthening the security architecture of the State, safeguarding lives and property, and enhancing the operational efficiency of security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
“The deployment of the 20no. Toyota Hilux vehicles will improve the mobility, logistics, and rapid response capabilities of security agencies, thereby enabling them to effectively combat crime, respond promptly to emergencies, and maintain peace and public order across the State. Similarly, provide the necessary operational support and logistics required by security agencies to address emerging security challenges and sustain a secure environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.
