Kano Govt bans tricycle operators from carrying female passenger attachment

The Kano State Sharia Commission has banned commercial tricycle operators in the state from carrying female passengers as “attachment”on both sides of their tricycles.
Sheikh Ali Danabba, a Commissioner in the commission, stated this at a meeting with leaders of the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association (BOTORA) in Kano.
Danabba said that the practice was against Islamic teachings because it involved close physical contact between male riders and the female passengers.
He urged the operators to stop the practice immediately as carrying female passengers on either side of their tricycles was unIslamic.
Danabba said that the meeting focused on improving cooperation and promoting order in Kano’s commercial tricycle transport sector.
He said “the practice was banned under Islamic law because it involved unnecessary physical closeness between male riders and female passengers.”
According to him, the meeting was organised to strengthen cooperation between the Sharia Commission and BOTORA in addressing issues affecting the state.
He said discussions also covered efforts to stop child abduction, fight drug abuse and trafficking, and encourage discipline and good behaviour among tricycle operators.
Danabba urged riders to obey the new directive and support efforts to promote moral values, public order, and safety across Kano State.
The chairman of BOTORA promised that the association would fully cooperate with the Sharia Commission in promoting public safety, social order, and the overall development of the state.
The meeting was attended by other members of the commission including Commissioner Gwani Dahir Yakasai, other senior officials and the BOTORA’s leadership.
