Police clamp down on sara-suka thuggery in Bauchi: Restore peace in Bauchi metropolis

By Ali Baba-Inuwa

The police command in Bauchi State says it has restored normalcy in Bauchi metropolis in its sustained crackdown on Sara-Suka thuggery and all form of violent crimes across the state.

SP Nafiu Habib, the state Police Public Relations Officer stated this in a statement on Monday.

Habib said that the clamp down followed two separate disturbances.

“In the first incident, on 11th October, 2026 at about 9:15pm, the Command received a distress call that large number of Sara-Suka youths had stormed Wayan Makafi and Unguwan Kur areas, causing panic and public disturbance among law-abiding residents.

“Upon receipt of the report, a patrol team attached to ‘D’ Division, Dutsen Tanshi, in collaboration with members of the Yan Committee, promptly mobilized to the affected areas. Consequently, the miscreants were successfully dispersed and further breakdown of law and order was averted.

“Regrettably, in the course of restoring order, one brave member of the Yan Committee who stood firm to protect his community sustained injuries. He is currently receiving medical attention and is in stable condition.

“Meanwhile, one suspect was arrested at the scene while others fled, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he said.

Habib added that the command also received information about an impending attack by thugs at the residence of a Peace Corps personnel at Kofar Dumi area of Bauchi with intent to attack him.

“In a related development, on 11th October, 2026 at about 6:30pm, information was received that thugs armed with dangerous weapons stormed the residence of a Peace Corps personnel at Kofar Dumi area of Bauchi with intent to attack him.

“Acting swiftly on the credible information, police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Township, rushed to the scene and arrested one Abubakar Adamu Aliyu alias Zadous, 25 years old male, a notorious Sara-Suka kingpin. It is noteworthy that the suspect, who was previously charged to court by the same ‘A’ Division for thuggery and regained freedom last week, was found to be on a revenge mission against the same Peace Corps personnel who had alerted the police about his activities about seven months ago.

“The suspect is currently in custody while investigation is ongoing. He will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

“The Bauchi State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc(+), commends the swift response of the operatives and the synergy with Quasi-security outfits.

“He warns unequivocally that the Command will not tolerate any act of thuggery, public disturbance or Sara-Suka activities under any guise, and has directed sustained patrol, surveillance and intelligence-led operations to ensure peace is maintained.

“He further urges parents, guardians and community leaders to caution their wards and to continue to collaborate with the Police by providing timely and credible information,” he said.
