Drama as Gov. Yusuf Ignores Court Orders, Directs Arrest Of Deposed Emir

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of of Kano State has ordered the immediate arrest of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, his spokesperson, the governor said Bayero’s return was to create tension in the state.

The former Emir was said to have returned to Kano in the early hours of Saturday and was received by his supporters at the Aminu Kano International Airport.
The governor had given the Emir abd others who were deposed 48 hours to handover the affairs of the five Emirates to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
In a bid to stop Bayero from getting access to the palace, the Governor, accompanied by his deputy, rushed the reinstated emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi into the palace at about 1am on Saturday.Defending the directive to arrest the deposed Emir, the governor claimed that it was “for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”
A Federal High Court had issued an order directing the governor not to remove the five emirs pending the determination of a suit before the court.
The governor had publicly said he would not respect the court’s injunction, claiming that the judge issued the injunction while out of the country.
