Kaduna: Bandits abduct 18 in fresh attack
No fewer than 18 people, mostly women and children, have reportedly been abducted, while two men were killed following an attack on Akwando community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack, according to a social media post by Reuben Buhari, a former aide to the late Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, occurred at about 12:30am on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Buhari, who served as Yakowa’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said the victims were members of his extended family, including his cousins, their children and grandchildren.
He listed 18 people as having been taken away by the attackers, among them several married women, young children and infants, including babies aged six months, five months and four months.
Those abducted according Buhari include Usman Galadima, 55; Amina Ahmadu, 52; Alice Ahmadu, 45; Haske Ahmadu, 18; Magdalene Marcus, 35; Gloria Marcus, six months; Lovene Ishaya, 25; Happy Steven, 23; and Zillah Steven, one year.
Others are Afiniki Irimiya, 30; her one-year-old daughter, Jeneth Irimiya; Laraba Irimiya, 32; Sim Shagari, 30; three-year-old Yangal Shagari; one-year-old Musa Genesis; Miracle Genesis, 21; and two other infants, a four-month-old girl and a five-month-old boy.
Buhari also disclosed that two men, identified as Irimiya Galadima, 41, and Benjamin Danlami, 32, were killed during the attack.
The circumstances surrounding the killings and the abduction had yet to be independently confirmed by security authorities as of the time of filing this report.
An attempt to obtain the reaction of the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Hassan Mansur, was unsuccessful, as he could not be reached.
Meanwhile, the latest incident has renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting Akwando and other communities in Kachia Local Government Area.
Akwando was also the scene of an attack on April 26, 2026, when nine people, including six schoolchildren, were abducted while travelling from the village to Kachia.
The victims spent 36 days in captivity before regaining their freedom in early June. Their release was confirmed by community representatives and Buhari, who said the children had endured a traumatic experience and missed almost an entire academic term. A young girl was also reportedly killed during the April attack.
