A total of 8,850 children are to recieve malaria prevention drugs in Jahun local government area of Jigawa state.

The vaccine was provided by Jigawa state government and Global Fund Nigeria (GFN),  the Primary Health Care unit manager in Jahun, Malam Ghali Iguda, has said.

He said they had also received 194,250 Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) to be distributed  free across the 10 political wards of the area.

The manager said the local council had a constituted Socal Mobilization Committee which has embarked on massive public enlightenment to encourage residents to allow their children to be vaccinated.

“The Social Mobilization Committee organised enlightenment campaigns on the importance of the vaccine, the age of the targeted children, and how to use ITNs.

Iguda added that 548 teams were formed to carryout the distribution of ITNs and administer the Malaria vaccines to children below five years.

“We are at the peak of mosquito breading period as stagnant water is all over, people are in dire need of the drugs and treated nets. The distribution is a partnership between the government and Malaria consortium aimed at curtailing the menace of malaria.”

He therefore urged parents of children aged 3-59 months to ensure they collect a complete four dosage of the drugs and use the nets to prevent their children and themselves from contracting malaria.
