Gov. Yusuf reopens Kano Informatics Institute,Kura
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano has reopened the State Informatics Institute,Kura, eight years after it was closed by the Abdullahi Ganduje led administration.
Speaking at the ceremony in Kura, Yusuf promised to reopen all institutions of higher learning, shut down by the immediate past administration in the state.
He also presented letters of admission to 250 students to begin academic activities at the institute without delay.
Yusuf said that the institution which was commissioned 12 years ago by the administration of former Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso, was designed to train youth in information technology, and give them the opportunity to rise to the challenges of modern communication technology.
“This moment is significant because we are concerned about the issue of education and information technology in Kano State. Let me also inform you that many graduates of the institute have made significant strides in their careers and are employed in various parastals, companies, ministries not only in Kano State but across the globe. The institute is designed to meet the requirements and enhance digital economy,” he said.
Yusuf said that the reopening of the institute aligned with his administration’s broader vision for digital economy in the state.
“The Institution had played a significant role in advancing information technology in the Northern region, contributing to the professional development of the students and enhancing their impact on key sectors of the economy,” he said.
He congratulated the staff and students of the institute and assured them of more support for the development of the school.
“Let me assure all our students and indeed the citizens of the state that this institute will once again be the center of excellence where our young people would be trained in different aspects of information technology, empowering them to become leaders in the digital economy, by the grace of Allah,” the governor added.
The Director of the Informatics institute, Malam Mutassim Adamu, informed the governor of his determination to attain higher academic accreditation for the Institution.
Adamu said that an Adult literacy Programme would begin among other Information Technology relevant courses run by the school.
“The courses to study include Information and communication technology, machine learning, Robotics, intercom installations, security door installation, fire alarms installations, CCTV and VSat installations, wire and wireless installation, among others,” he said.
The Director appealed to the governor to restore the staff salaries, also called for the recruitment of qualified teachers for the Institution.
The state’s Commissioner for Science and Technology, Alhaji Tajuddeen Zaura, said the institute was focusing on infor – tech related courses to brighten the future of the younger generations.
Some of the students who received their letters of admission at the ceremony thanked the governor for reopening the institute and promised to make the best use of the opportunity offered them.
