Bus crushes 6 children to death, injures 9 in Jigawa

A bus driver on Monday lost control and crushed six children to death and injured nine in Gagarawa village, Ringim local government area of Jigawa state.
The children were part of a group celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
A statement made available to The Syndicate in Dutse by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams said the driver, one Usman Idris of Doko village, Garki LGA, was from Gashua in Yobe enroute to Kano, when the incident happened.
“On reaching Gagarawa village, the driver lost control while on speed and knocked down about 15 pedestrians, who were celebrating maulud where six reportedly died and nine were injured”.
DSP Adam said a team of policemen conveyed the victims to Ringim General Hospital, where six were certified dead, while nine were admitted for treatment.
“Both the driver and the vehicle, a Volkswagen Sharon with registration number Kano NSR 452 ZX, were taken into police custody,” he added.
