Jigawa Withdraws From Pending Case Against EFCC, ICPC At Apex Court

Jigawa state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr Bello Abdulkadir Fanini has announced the withdrawal of the state from the lawsuit challenging the legality of federal anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
The Attorney General, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Dutse, said Jigawa state has withdrawn from the case instituted by some states before the Supreme Court on the legality of the existence of the two agencies.
“With regards to the case of AG Kogi and AG of the federation SC/CV/178/2023, let me at this juncture announce that the Jigawa state government has withdrawn from this case pending at the Supreme Court of Nigeria. A notice of withdrawal has since been signed by my humble self and sent to the chief registrar of the supreme court”.
On the activities of the ministry in the third quarter of the year, the commissioner said non of the 403 people arrested in connection with the August Endbadgovernance protest are in detention.
“The department of the public prosecution in this ministry had successfully prosecuted 403 persons arrested in connection with the 1st August riot in Jigawa state. As at September there was no single person in detention”.
“The department successful filed the processes and prosecution (as the case may be) of 6 and 4 appeal cases at courts of appeal and supreme court respectively. This is in addition to the handling of dozens of cases to near completion stages at 12 high courts of the state”.
He explained that the department of civil litigation also successfully handled two case of the State Independent Electoral Commission prior to just concluded local councils elections held on 5th of October.
Fanini stated further the citizens right department of the ministry had recieved and handled a total of 63 complains, which were mostly resolved through mediation.
