Stop relying on hearsay, be objective, Yobe NUJ Chairman urges journalists

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe state council, Comrade Rajab Mohammed Ismail, has charged journalists in the state to be objective and stop relying on hearsay in their reportage.
Comrade Rajab made the appeal when members of the union visited some educational projects executed by the state government in 2024.
The projects include renovated class rooms, administrative block, hostels, halls, and laboratories among others at Government Higher Islamic College Nguru, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gashu’a, Nigerian Turkish International College Mamudo, Ngelzarma and Government Science Technical, Damagum.
He said the visit was to ascertain government investment in education this year, contrary to a false report by an online media, which claimed that Yobe state government made zero allocation for the education sector.
“This is absolutely false. We as media personnel, what is expected of us is to balance out stories, we should not always rely on hearsay. That is the essence of organizing this media tour to go round and see things for ourselves,” he added.
The NUJ chairman commended the journalists who went round the schools with him to see the projects executed by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
In his comment, Secretary to Yobe State Government, Baba Mallam Wali said the governor has provided conducive teaching and learning environment for students and teachers in public schools in the state.
On out of school children, Wali said that the governor Buni had constituted a committee to go round the nooks and crannies of the state to enroll the out-of-schools children, especially those at the rural areas.
Some of the Principal of the schools visited, Musa Bulama Jawi of GDSS Gashu’a, Usman Mohammed of Higher Islamic college Nguru, and Hasibullah Jogi of Turkish college, Mamudo, appreciated the state government for renovating structures, and providing the modern equipments and water to the schools.
